Miami Basel Day 3

29 December 2014

The morning started with breakfast with the Leo Gabin boy's from Ghent.

Miami Basel Day 3
We had such a lovely time getting to know each other.
Miami Basel Day 3
Then off for a quick visit to the Rubell Collection and a wonderful encounter with the work of Michail Pirgelis. They are celebrating 50 years of collecting with a really beautiful and thoughtfully presented exhibition.
Miami Basel Day 3
The Peter Marino exhibition at the Bass Museum of Art was a little bonkers and over the top but great fun. This Sylvie Fleury conjured the age old question of ‘art or not art?’
Miami Basel Day 3
We then followed up with what turned out to be the best part of the day, the NADA art fair. It was both dynamic and exciting. Here’s Roy discovering Mika Tajima's inside of a Jacuzzi at Eleven Rivington.
Miami Basel Day 3
I discovered the young Glaswegian painter Jack McConville was already showing with Ibid projects. I first met Jack when he was on residency with The Still House Group so it’s wonderful to see him with Ibid, they have the keenest of eyes.
Miami Basel Day 3
Post lunch I found time to sneak back to the fair and check out Rachel Rose, Tabor Robak, Chrissie Iles and David Gryn discussing the ‘Digital Revolution.’
Miami Basel Day 3
And then by some sort of fluke I stumbled upon Société Gallery and our last purchase of the fair was our first ever Timur Si-Qin, really exciting.

We then finished our special day with a chill-out at Mr Francois Chantala and Simon Preston’s house alongside Alexandre da Cunha and Samara Scott, who were living in a caravan a few miles away and taking the opportunity to splash around with their mates in the balmy evening. I so wanted to join in…

Next day, after a great lunch given by Nick Jones and Johnathan Yeo at Soho House,
Miami Basel Day 3
I took my chance and sped off to the swimming pool to chill out with the girls. That’s the girls that never sleep; Tif Zab, Chloe Wise and their friend. I don’t know how they do it, maybe they have youth on their side?
Miami Basel Day 3
Then quite abruptly it was out of the sun and into the freezing cold of New York. But it was birthday and I had the biggest surprise in the world awaiting me, I just could not believe it!
