So I have landed in the middle of Paris, in the 16th arrondissement and I am seeking out a hidden away home on the road created by architect Robert Mallet-Stevens. Vincent Honoré and DRAF were presenting ‘Le musée d'une nuit,’ a selection of thirty hard hitting works from the Foundation’s collection.
Straight away we were confronted at the door by some unopened post, which brought the question of ‘art or not art?’ immediately to the table again! It was by Marie Lund.
For Vincent, the starting point was this magnificent work by Martin Boyce.
After a good look round it was off to FIAC’s show (OFF)ICIELLE, which really was quite good. I loved this work by African artist Romuald Hazoume
and the wonderfully narrative Amalia Ulman’s.
Alex Ruthner was a new discovery at IBID Projects.
I hope he doesn’t get swept up in the secondary post-abstract world.
The most exciting moment of my trip was seeing the David Altmejd show at Musée d’art Moderne. It was outstanding and we finally found our third piece for the Collection with 'La Palette.'
The vitrines were awesome,
with many joyful surprises!
Then hidden away we found a head, a more typical Altmejd offering.
This work, owned by one of our collector friends made me very jelly.
The next morning I walked down to the Tuileries and spied before my eyes not an old relic but the most fabulous marble head created by Jon Rafman.
We dropped in to visit Yvon Lambert’s secret space and spotted this Jonathan Monk, woman sitting in a chair? It’s such a shame that Yvon Lambert is closing his galleries soon.
Then onto the beautiful and elegant Grand Palais to see the wonderful array of art works at FIAC. Loved this Dan Colen at Gagosian
At Jessica Silverman we adored the Ruairiadh O Connell. A really great departure from his carpet works.
Was stunned by the concrete Isa Genzken at David Zwirner
Some very heavy Givenchy bags were being transported through the busy art fair. Not sure if this was performance?
Josephine Meckseper’s work was stunning at Andrea Rosen. Tiny selfie of me and Wendy Fisher in the mirror.
Tim Neuger from Neugerriemschneider had the most stunning Olafur Eliasson hidden out of sight. Reflective and jewel-like all in one.
A quick visit to Thaddaeus Ropac and we were rewarded by the beautiful art candy of Liza Lou’s wall pieces. I later had the pleasure of sitting next to Liza at dinner with her lovely Brit artist husband Mick Haggerty, Lee Bul and Jack Pierson, what a treat.
The visit ended with another lovely dinner given by Daniele Balice next to the river Seine to celebrate Jon Rafman’s birthday. It was a very special evening ending with Boy Child performing in the adjacent nightclub.
