Once again I am heading towards the big city New York, New York.
Roy takes me to our first visit which is the Brucennial.
There was painting after painting sculpture after sculpture hung chaotically but it was a good way to spend time and discover new young talent.
Then it was to James Fuentes where a deceased artist called Bill Walton’s work was shown; it was very sensitive and beautiful. It seems that all the galleries are now looking into the past and finding and discovering some amazing long forgotten artists. It is very tempting for me to go there as a collector but I would rather collect emerging artists of our time.
Back to art and I had a nice surprise at Metro I thought work of John Miller was fascinating.
The show is called “Suburban Past Time”.
Kevin Spacey had a lovely dinner at the Lambs club but the highlight was at Nouriel Roubini’s were I bumped into Yigal Ozeri the artist who is larger than life and Kerry who is the red bull supplier in USA. Red Bull and Vodka WOW!! I was very awake.
Some lost feet by Tom Friedman at Luhring Augustine
Haegue Yang had a fab installation at Greene Naftali Gallery.
Will Ryman’s garden of delights was joyful.
Interesting woman artist called Martha Friedman called “Licked” at Wall Space.
The biggest surprise was Paul Graham’s work at Pace the work sent chills down my spine.
Alexandre da Cunha’s show at CRG was also brilliant.
Then it was the Whitney and it was a pleasure to see they were like ourselves at 176 and doing their own thing. Not following any trends or market. It was a very interesting show and must have shook up a load of people.
Mark Quinn and Anna standing in front of one of the majestic paintings.
Still love Kenny Scharf wish I had him in my collection
Well at least I have Eddie Peake in the collection his work is so vibrant and fresh.
David Risley was waiting to greet me in front of his totem poles. Watch out girls he is on the market!
Christian Eisenberger from Teapot Gallery took up residence at the Armory. Great idea making art booths into temporary artist spaces, I say why not!
Tony Matelli creates “stray dog”. Always something to make you smile around the corner in art fairs.
Laura Lancaster from Workplace lovingly putting herself in front of her painting.
I spotted this gem of a sculpture by Steve Claydon.
We headed to Independant where at Freymond Guth Fine Arts Tanja Roscic was adding the finishing touches to her work.
I was intrigued by the work of Alistair Frost shown by Hotel, a massage bed flower pot and painting. Very minimal and very strange!
Then at Zack Feuer it was a surprise to come across Johannes Van Der Beek's work. It was all very strong, engaging and experimental.
My final stop was at Casey Caplan where Marlo Pascual had created a work of some magnitude. A photograph of a big furry cuddly cat which made me think of Tracey, Miaow Miaow!
Then home sweet home to Hannah Perry’s opening a Taco truck and a great vibe.
Hannah’s visual installation and sound has many layers and is a feast for the senses.

Openings at home and around town....
On my way to the CAS dinner I finally get to see Andy Holden’s work at Cubitt called The Dan Cox Library For The Unfinished Concept Of Thingly Time. It is a very sad story, the collaboration with Dan Cox ended in tragedy as he died in an accident. Feel a little uneasy around the work.
Then to see Alexander at the Islington Business Centre where he received first prize for design of his Arclite Great for art lighting up art.
Then it was the CAS dinner where Charlotte Artus with her very pretty red nose and Bellinda de Gaudema posed for me in their circus chic. Everyone looked spectacular.
The theme was circus and even Oliver Barker had to use his acrobatic skills as he worked two rooms at once.
Then our opening of Weighted Words. James Lingwood checking out Ryan Trecartin’s intricately thought out scripts.
Ellen and I taking the weight of our feet and listening to Ruth Ewan’s Jukebox “A jukebox of people trying to change the world”
Anthony Green checking out the music.
Alexander Singh in front of the most perfect Glass of Claret. The work is called The Dialogues of the Objects 1-V. Objects become talk to each other in a theatrical setting.
We had a wonderful lunch at home so many of the artists involved with Weighted Words joined us. Lizzie speaking to us all. Including Hannah Perry who is opening on Thursday in INVITES at 176
Rob Tuffnell, Richard Sides, Uriel Orlow, Ed Atkins and Anthony Green
Anna Barham with her lovely baby Iris.
The show was wonderful all the artists were impeccably displayed to perfection. Glen Ligon’s Warm Broad Glow.
Sunday 26 February 2012
Before the opening of Weighted Words at 176 Prince of Wales Road this Thurs (1 March 7pm to 9pm - you are all welcome to join me see you then otherwise watch this space.) I jogged off on a catch up tour of a few things that have been happening in London.
I went to see the English National Ballet rehearsing in the Duveen Gallery inspired by Picasso.
Also to take a peek at Kiefer at the Bermondsey Modern aka White Cube. So happy I viewed this definitely not to be missed.
Then Tate Modern as I had to check out the Kusama, I wanted to know more after the Pompidou a few months ago. They took a great approach to her work showing her practice throughout her career in detail also showing some of the fun stuff.
Finally my last chance to see Laura Buckleys fantastic kaleidescope at Cell. She is going from strength to strength.
