A Magical Week at World Receivers

4 April 2019

Back in London and it was magical. We had such special times - Tif Zab had gone beyond my expectations and made me so proud. Much better than me by miles! A mother can brag and brag, but the proof really is in the pudding, and what a matzah pudding it was! The TSS (Times Square Space) project in Times Square, New York had been the testing ground for all these wonderful artists, and they were all winners.

Then it was the exhibition ‘Stalking the Trace’ by Rachel Rossin, which was a mind-blowing revolutionary experience with so many new and wonderful groundbreaking elements, including moving time backwards and forwards

Hayden Dunham and Tiff ambitiously setting out the very difficult and intricate work ‘GEL’. Made with GEL, a substance created from 500 different materials developed by the artist and scientists. GEL is also being diffused, as a gas, around the work out of the floorboards

Anna Uddenberg’s work ‘BFF Twin Torso’ was a statement about human relationships – is our BFF a reality or a result of a commodified and social media culture

Then we have Athena Papadopoulos’ ambitious work, ‘Smurfette, CHEWED UP’. Zab Curator, Paul Luckraft, is hiding behind her tree adding to the wonderment of all the strange artifacts included in this piece, from makeup covered resin, to nail-polished crow claws, to embroidered Victoria’s Secret underwear

There were some wonderful young artists on show, including Aaron Fowler, whose work, ‘Free Easy’, is a medallion on a gold chain taken after the record label, Death Row Records. Depicted in the medallion is a portrait of his younger cousin, who was in jail at the time, and was released after he made this work

In the Invites Room, Jake Elwes had created, ‘CUSP’, a beautiful work of nature exploring the intersection between nature and machine, producing generated forms and artificial bird song

Many of the artists were in town and so could come together to meet, mingle and exchange ideas at our opening lunch; here is Tiff with Signe Pierce, Hayden Dunham, Chloe Wise and Rachel Rossin
