ARCO

24 February 2014

After a bit of skiing and nothing to think about besides white snow and bumps I headed off to ARCO in Madrid to pick up the ARCO prize for Best International Collection!

The fair was incredibly interesting and I had a great time. There was a definite emphasis on Finnish art galleries this year, so here I was in Madrid with all my Finnish friends collecting a prize for Zabludowicz Collection.

ARCO
With the help of Maitreyi Maheshwari and Liam I discovered new and fascinating art, the first being Marina Vargas. Not sure what it was all about but definitely interesting...

The Brazilian artist Ricardo Alcaide showed us his new work
ARCO
and we acquired a wonderful Renaud Regnery for the Collection.
ARCO
Unfortunately I wasn’t too sure about ‘Memento Mori’ by Leiko Ikemura from Kewenig Galerie.
ARCO
‘Megan in Woven Shoes’ by Chantal Joffe at Galerie Forsblom was my favourite.
ARCO
CentroCentro in Madrid is such an architectural a gem and Galerie Forsblom with the artist Kaarina Kaikkonen had really sympathetically installed the work ‘Touching the Sky’.
ARCO
Later on at DNA Galerie I had my most embarrassing moment when the question of ‘art or not art’ arose, I was caught out in my own little game!!!
ARCO
In the same gallery we took interest in the work of Laura Kikauka.
ARCO
Gallery Lelong were showing a great work, ‘Sans Titre’ 2008 by Jannis Kounellis.
ARCO
However, ADN Galeria gave us the most pleasure with an abundance of new discoveries and Carlos Aires being the most intriguing.
ARCO
Another Carlos Aires.
ARCO
Bruno Peinado was something most unusual.
ARCO
‘V for Vendetta’ by Eugenio Merino
ARCO
Even Liam was interacting very well with the art.
ARCO
In the name of art, artist Miderrota’s performance was stirring up a storm.

Finally and on my last legs, I limped my way to the awards ceremony where the lovely Mayor of Madrid presented me with our ARCO prize.
ARCO
The lovely Rafaela and Kai were there to support me.
ARCO
Et VOILA! A for ARCO, Award and Anita. Thanks Zab Team, you are all amazing with Lizzie at the helm.
