This year there seemed to be an abundance of art which made my heart beat faster on many occasions. It was a very good year for new discoveries At Fanta-MLN we loved the Richter inspired work by Angharad Williams, turning Richter’s daughter into a dissolving Princess Diana
At Goodman Gallery it was fun to see such an ambitious work by Yinka Shonibare called ‘Feeling Free Like a Bird’
At Balice Hertling Puppies Puppies (Jade Guanaro Kuriki-Olivo) created a new sculpture taking pride in her Japanese-Puerto Rican (Taíno) trans female identity
At Galleria Lorcan O’Neill is a wonderful example of Betty Woodman’s painting and ceramic exuberance
Francois Ghebaly had an interesting artist Amol K Patil
Carlier Gebauer had a work by Anna Bella Geiger - a Brazilian artist born in 1933 - she uses many different mediums to present her beautiful scrolls
At Lisson Anish Kapoor had a deep colourful work ‘Spanish and Pagan Gold to Garnet and Brandy Wine’
My friends acquired these two beautiful Ugo Rondinone from Esther Schipper - they were so happy - I cannot wait to see them installed
In ‘Zero 10’ the new (second) Art Basel digital section there was much to see. I loved this weird work by OxDEAFBEEF ‘Synth Poem:Oscilloscope’ something weird and wonderful with a generative code
Then at a beautiful celebration dinner at the Beyeler and I thought ‘The Old Woman’s Despair’ by Marlene Dumas was magnificent
Then it was Pierre Huyghe and how do you explain ants on a wall that are directed to walk in one direction through a hole. How? As I scuttled by someone managed to squash a few of them with her handbag. Tragic!
Not an bowl but a place where a pregnant lady may lie down and observe the squiggly worm or perhaps the breathing doors...magic happens wherever Huyghe works
As we left Philomene Magers, Christian Boros, Keren Boros and Andreas Siegfried paid homage to Gehard Richter’s mirror work
