Art Basel Paris Day 1
19 February 2024
It was a very exciting day for us which started with a tour of the Mark Rothko exhibition at the Foundation Louis Vuitton which was led by his son, Christopher Rothko. It was wonderful to see a great estate held in the hands of caring kin
We then went to visit Giuseppe Penone at Gagosian, who showed us his gentle art works
Then it was onto to the exhibition of Wade Guyton
It was a great pleasure to see Zabludowicz Collection’s artwork loan at Lafayette Anticipations, Izzy Wood’s ‘Will He’. Izzy felt it was her right to take back a nude painted so many old masters
The show was masterful and a great institutional beginning for Izzy
At Bourse de Commerce, the Pinault Collection there were some stunning works by Mike Kelley
At last I finally got to see a retrospective of Mike Kelley!
The show showed his breadth of practice and how he brought LA childhood into LA dystopia
We were invited to a very special lunch at the Museum du Luxemborg hosted by the President of the Senat. We had loaned our Glenn Ligon work to the Gertrude Stein and Pablo Picasso exhibition
Then it was onto one of my favourite Paris art fairs Paris Internationale preview’. At greengrassi, I thought there was something beguiling about the David Musgrave works
Remember the Chapman Brothers? Well, Dinos Chapman continues his cool paintings on etchings!
At Hagiwara Projects I loved this work by Nana Matsumoto
At Ciaccia Levi I was very fond of the presentation of Zoe Williams work
The work was art not quite functional
At Crèvecœur, Yu Nishimura was showing originality and mystery
I loved ‘A Thousand Plateaus’ by Bi Rongrong
Goswell Road was fascinating. I loved spotting this Rafman!
At Amanda Wilkinson I was introduced to a fantastic Oisín Byrne work called ‘Crioch’
I love this work by Juliette Blightman. Now we know what to do with our old toilets!
The evening ended with a glamorous dinner at Musée d'Art Moderne
