Final Frieze 2023
7 February 2024
Whilst out and about, we passed the Fourth Plinth, and were really taken by this wonderful work titled ‘Antelope’ by Samson Kambalu
I liked the paintings by Epheas Maposa at Gallery Nosco, where the body was at the centre of his work
The works of Gustavo Nazareno from Portas Vilaseca Gallery in Rio De Janeiro were very interesting
Gustavo’s research is influenced by the Afro-Brazilian Yoruba pantheon, in particular, the orixá Ecu. The artist's references range from the Renaissance and Baroque iconography to the history of fashion and its contemporary developments
The sculptures by Amine El Gotaibi in the incredible Somerset House courtyard were wonderful. They emitted a gentle amber light and looked like scattered mirrored spaceships inviting the audience to interact
I also spotted this rainbow of coloured chairs which looked so bright and happy in the gloomy grey day
Then it was time for the big white tent for more discoveries! Joe Houston’s work at P.P.O.W seemed worth investigating
There was also something fascinating by Kyle Dunn’s work ‘Violets’
There was something very beguiling of the work by Siobhan Liddell at Parker Gallery
At Sfeir-Semler Gallery, I liked this creepy work by Wael Shawky
My favourite photo works were by Annette Kelm called ‘Jeans Buttons’
On Instagram, I discovered ‘Fallen Star’ by Do Ho Su. I am totally intrigued by this incredible work, made for the Stuart Collection
