Freize Part 2
Had a blast in the tent this year... We loved this incredible creature by Autum Wallace work at Josh Lilley
Freize Part 2
At Hauser was a wonderful new Anj Smith. Her show has just opened in LA. Wish I was able to see it IRL
Freize Part 2
A freaky painting by Simon Lehner at Edel Assanti - Auto-Icon, they call this a lens based CNC painting
Freize Part 2
The work of Sorel Etrog from 1970 was mesmerising
Freize Part 2
At Approach was a wonderful Magali Reus ‘Rig, The Host’ she uses so many different materials and processes
Freize Part 2
Great moment with Michael and Gillian who loved seeing Michael’s incredible Multi-Saint, from 2013 on Thomas Dane’s booth. The work was gifted via the CAS to the Walker in Liverpool. The work is a kinetic sculpture created after a National Gallery residency in 2010–2012 – it is full of historical references and old mystic narratives
Freize Part 2
At Carl Freedman was a delightful little Lindsey Mendick and I loved the whole tchotchke thin – it was one strange and wonderful vessel after another
Freize Part 2
At the Ruinart lounge was another little surprise - the presentation of Sam Falls’ vibrant and colourful created on site in Ruinart’s historic Taissy vineyard. Made we fondly recall his residency with us in Sarvisalo all those years ago
Freize Part 2
The big winner of the Arts Council Collection Acquisitions Frieze Fund was the stunning work by Alex Margo Arden with Ginny on Frederick. The work talks about redundancy. Unlike Josh Kline where he wraps his 3D characters in a plastic bag she hauls the unused figurines from museums and ties them up in what looks like nautical rope.
Freize Part 2
Another new Arts Council Collected artist is the brilliant Vanessa Raw, here is a great picture of us with Don and Mera Rubell. Other artists selected were Sarah Ball, Olu Ogunnaike and Liorah Tchiprout enter the national collection
Freize Part 2
As I walk out spotted are divine ceramic by Sanya Kartarovsky on Stuart Shaves stand. Very beautifully and sensitively presented - and deservedly winner of the best stand
Freize Part 2
Then a lovely in encounter with Fru Tholstrop, Assia Webster and long lost friend Nicholas Kirkwood. Who has perfected the 3D printed shoe! Watch this space
Freize Part 2
talking of shoes... I spotted these wild Chanel numbers as Jay was giving a wonderful speech - they reminded me of Nicholas's
Freize Part 2
Jay's speech was in honour of his parents’ homeless charity Hope and Homes for Children - a very deserving cause
