I am in Florida with the Rubell's at their museum. Here is my friend Fran checking out Olaolu Slawn as well as their other timely and eclectic choices. Their shows are always inspiring and surprising. They work with whoever they want to, listening to their hearts and each other. It is always a success
We all sit with Mira and contemplate the magnificent Vanessa Raw paintings
They are challenging but beautiful, tough but sensual
Mira loves my Stella McCartney Nara shirt
I am drawn to the work of Omari Douglin, a young artist from Brooklyn. His work is a reflection on our addiction to consumerism and obsession with capitalism
Omari Douglin, ‘COVID Guy, Music Lover, Mr. One, Free from Foot Locker, The Original, Lakers Fan,’ 2022-2023
Lovely to see some magnificent Sterling Ruby works acquired in 2011. His spray paintings explore colour with diffusing horizon lines – they were refreshing and stunning to see all over again
Then came my highlight moment - visiting in Palm Beach and some of my old favourites in Jill’s new space. It was super cool and she was surrounded by her beloved Anselm Kiefer, Olafur Eliasson and Ronnie Horn
A beautiful Anselm Kiefer sculpture – He turns 80 this year
We headed off to NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale and the magnificent display by artist Vanessa German, here is “Pure Lard #3” (2014). Her work could be described as folk art, using found objects: tooth and shoeshine brushes, buttons and beads
Director Bonnie Clearwater stands next to the museum’s newest acquisition
Alongside they showed Rose B Simpson “Root 1” (2019)
It was wonderful to see the work of Jacqueline de Jong, born in the Netherlands in 1939. Her work was focused on social activism through themes of war and protest. Sadly she died last year but it is great that her work has got more recognition now
Next was a great visit to Beth De Woody’s Bunker Art Space were Maynard showed us around and some lovely works were spotted including Brad Kahlhamer’s “Super Catcher, The Sun Weaves”, wire, jingles, and powwow bells (from 2018)
Agnes Pelton’s Intimation was quite beautiful, it was painted in 1933
How super cute is this Grayson Perry silver candelabra "Princess Freedom"!
It was lovely to see one of Damien Hirst’s under sea treasures
Finally, I took refuge under Erwin Wurm’s oversized New York Police hat
