Las Vegas to Miami

15 February 2022

I started the New Year running!

Las Vegas to Miami
First stop was Las Vegas where I immediately headed to AREA15 where I visited Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart; an incredible interactive experience
Las Vegas to Miami
Omega Mart was a massive money spinner, and an experience which sent participants of all ages on a journey through many different surreal worlds. It was very playful, but lacked any depth, however was great fun as you discovered many secret portals in an array of unexpected landscapes
Las Vegas to Miami
Resort World was a big voluminous building, which it looked like a huge suburban shopping centre with a giant 50ft LED dome in the middle which offered viewers exciting shows on the hour. I loved this cinematic experience

Then from Las Vegas we headed to Miami, visiting the Rubell Museum again. We loved the work of Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe, the Rubell Collection’s Artist in Residence. He has created many portraits during his time there, presenting a new perspective on the American cowboy trope. Here is the massive triptych made during the residency
Las Vegas to Miami
There we also enjoyed the work of Cajsa von Zeipel, who’s sculptures were cast from her and her friends all held together by an excessive use of silicone, giving a sense of body secretions
Las Vegas to Miami
There were many references to silicone breasts, fashion brands, celebrity and even sex toys
Las Vegas to Miami
Whilst in Florida, we travelled less than two hours down the highway to Palm Beach, where White Cube have opened their doors! Here we saw an amazing hanging DIY sculpture of chimes that sung in the wind by Virginia Overton
Las Vegas to Miami
Pace Gallery was showing a monstrously big version of Balloon Venus by Jeff Koons, which I found to be not as desirable as some of his previous works
Las Vegas to Miami
We headed to The Bunker, the home of the Beth Rudin DeWoody collection, to see what was awaiting us there. Here we spotted a wonderful puppet show, a very original theme we thought, Freddie and Elmore seated together, frozen for all eternity
Las Vegas to Miami
Laurie Simmons’ political work greeted us as we entered the show

In the main hall, Elon Musk, Grimes and their new baby greet us in Daata.art’s AR artwork by Keiken; they stand in front of a fabulous Lauren Halsey piece

Meanwhile, showing over at Various Small Fires was a lovely exhibition by Che Lovelace. After that, I headed back to London for one week. I was excited to return home
