Last Days in London
17 April 2024
I enjoyed exploring a new collection of works in Kensington, where I spotted this fantastic work by Polish artist Pawel Althamer
I loved this work by Olivia Bax, which was part of the show ‘Floss’ at Holtermann Gallery
Opposite was a lovely work at Stephen Friedman by Jeffrey Gibson, the show was so happy and full of joy and hope
I visited Camden Art Centre and spotted some absolute gems at the New Contemporaries exhibition. I particularly liked this work by Elena Njoabuzia Onwochei-Garcia titled ‘A Communion Rite featuring the Slave Leader, Tiresius and other characters, Pentheus and the Tricked King’. The show was selected through an open call process by Helen Cammock, Sunil Gupta and Heather Phillipson
A nice painting by Thomas Cameron titled ‘Delivery’, 2022
The highlight was this work by Noa Klagsbald. We loved it so much
I was in Oxford and spotted an Anthony Gormley!
I enjoyed another great show of sculpture at Hayward Gallery which was rich with an array of incredible works. First stop was the work of Teresa Solar Abboud titled ‘Tunnel Boring Machine’. The works are a reimagination of the underground, with vibrant, finely finished elements that ooze out from the pores of rough clay
It was a pleasure to introduce ZC artist Candida Powell Williams to Matthew Ronay, whose work they were standing behind
I enjoyed this work by Franz West ‘Kain Naht Abel (Approaching Abel)’, depicting what was supposedly the first ever murder on earth
A highlight was the opening of Ding Shulin at Bernheim Gallery; the details were so intricate and beautiful
The details were incredible
This particular day finished with a wonderful evening dedicated to the British Council at the home of Paul Ettinger and Raimund Berthold
The audience was composed of a Tau Lewis and Franz West
As we left there was fizzy wine on ice still to be drunk in front of Tracey Emin’s wonderful painting
The next day we went to Sommerset House where Libby Heany’s incredible quantum and VR show was to be admired. She showed us her magnificent wall works inspired by quantum physics
Here with Paul Luckraft, Antonia Blocker, Julia Greenway, Lizzie Neilson and Libby Heaney, in front of ‘Heartbreak and Magic’
I had a quick visit to the RA Schools! Now it was time to head to the West Coast to go walking, before Frieze!
