Back at Zabludowicz Collection we opened Emotional Supply Chains curated by Paul Luckraft. He’s done an excellent job.
The exhibition is fantastic and has some great artists, including Christopher Kulendran Thomas, here, standing next to a Nike shirt with the work of a local artist pinned on it, made in Sri Lanka.
It was also wonderful to see Michael Fullerton in front of his portrait of Kim Dot Com.
And right next to it was another work about Kim Dot Com, this time by Simon Denny who reconstructs the collection of items seized from the internet mogul by the New Zealand Police, including this stunning Colin Christian mask from the ‘Personal Effects of Kim Dot Com’.
Daniel Keller sits with Ella Plevin in front of his 'Onanet Spiruline 1', a series of tanks growing superfood algae that could give life to the living in a post-apocalyptic world perhaps. There is also a glimmer of hope in the work, as hidden among the connected hoses are wedding rings binding love and spirulina together.
Eloise Hawser stands in front of her shining stripped screen works where a now demolished building was glowing with daylight and glimpses of life.
Neil Beloufa's installation ‘Lifestyles’ was mesmerising and also entertaining - each story describing impossibly perfect days.
Ed Fornieles' 'Dorm Daze' for me was a shocker, drawing inspiration from fraternities and college hazing rituals including a waterboarding incident. Even though it sounds at times like a sitcom, the horrors of American college life are clear to see.
Sitting alongside Emotional Supply Chains was a very complementary Invites show by Gaia Fugazza who had worked incredibly hard to create a great installation.
Then a little peek in to Thomas Dane gallery and lovely to see this new Steve McQueen work, reminding us he is still here with ‘Remember Me’.
