Miami Art Basel Day 1
27 March 2024
I arrived at Palm Beach and was greeted by the wonderful Wendy Goldsmith
Jill and I arrived at The Bunker Artspace in Palm Beach and were greeted by Beth Rudin DeWoody
First up, we went to see a great painting by Trulee Hall titled ‘In Her Place (Don’t Tell)’. Trulee is represented by Francois Ghebaly
I loved this work by Will Ryman; it reminded me of our Mosquito in Keith Tyson’s ‘Large Field Array’
Beth had collected maybe thousands of ceramics in her life. The Hannah Wilke was most impressive
It was great to see Sahara Longe’s ‘Ejatu in Pink and Green’
Beth is also a great collector of furniture using her own eye to guide her
I visited friends’ homes in Palm Beach. My favourite way of looking at art is seeing how art is used in the home. I loved the wonderful juxtaposition of Henry Taylor on a book shelf next to a cosily placed painting by Kenny Scharf
I loved these works by Kaws place next to this mid-century table
First stop in Miami was Miami Design Fair and I loved the works by Vezzini & Chen
These luminous works were so bright and colourful
It was very satisfying to see the work by Bouke De Vries using 17th, 18th, and 19th century porcelain: it was very impressive
Then we dropped by to see the genius Stephen Webster and the incredible jewels he had created
His cocktail bars are legendary, and a cocktail book is an accessory everyone should have!
Finally time for some house work at Fendibackfrontals by FENDI by Desiree Heiss and Ines Kagg
I bumped into my favourite person Paul Ettinger!
We dropped into a beautiful collection next to the Faena; sometimes nature competes and is far more compelling however good the art is
Time for bed where our hosts were important photography collectors
