One Last Tour of NYC and Las Vegas
10 April 2024
I loved this magnificent James Turrell work at the entrance of the monorail in Las Vegas
We visited Ralph DeLuca with Adam Lindemann at his gallery space in Bellagio. We were hanging out with the celebs sipping champagne and soaking in the atmosphere
It was Grand Prix time, and I was thrown into a world of cars and noise!
I took a break in Tucson, Arizona and enjoyed the natural beauty and strange landscapes
Soon enough I was back in New York at 52 Walker to visit once again the mesmerising show of works by Kayode Oje
At Peter Freeman we enjoyed looking at the works of Charles LeDray
Then the highlight was visiting Jamian Juliano-Villani’s O’Flaherty with Hans Ulrich Obrist. Jamian and her partner Billy Grant show a gallery model which is an great move in the wake of the growth of the mega galleries. There is a need for artist led spaces in New York
Jamian with Billy where they had pulled off the rebel and Austrian painter Christian Ludwig Attersee
This was a work I found particularly interesting – Candice Lin’s ‘Lithium Sex Demons in the Factory’, co commissioned by Canal Projects. It was totally bonkers with humour and so many other hidden narratives
There were moments where I turned the same colour as the art works such as this Andra Ursuta work called ‘Canopic Demijohn’
Loved this sculpture
Such a fantastic work by Tau Lewis
I also spotted this wonderful Barbara Chase-Riboud work titled ‘Malcolm X 17”, where she has dedicated her sculptures to the civil rights leader and historical icon
Wow, the Henry Taylor show at the Whitney was powerful. He gave a full account of life as a Black man in America, and the show covered his own life, politics, culture, and violence, with works ranging from the 1990s to 2022. One of his early paintings titled ‘Untitled (Saddle Shoes Stepping on Bald Head’, 1992
To 2020 painting ‘Man, I’m so full of doubt, but I must Hustle Forward, as my daughter Jade would say’
Now at Luhring Augustine was also a wonderful Pipilotti Rist show
We had very sad news, curator and friend Vincent Honoré had passed away
The Zabludowicz Collection had a wonderful show with him back in 2008 called Past Forward where he introduced us to such interesting new artists such as Walead Beshty. It was a pleasure to work with him and he will be deeply missed
