We start day in style, going straight to the Pompidou where Yana hosts a wonderful Chanel breakfast, introducing us to the Surrealism show
There was so much to take in - my interest was immediately piqued by Dorothea Tanning’s ‘Birthday’ (1942), made the same year she was introduced to Surrealism by her friends. She immediately embraced the movement and created some of her most iconic works in this period
Here are some of my other highlights from an exceptional show: Rene Magritte, ‘les Valeurs personnelles’ (1952)
Another perfect Dorothea Tanning ‘Portrait of a Family’ is a critique on woman with the supersized father and the hand maid mother
Also her incredible ‘Room 202 ‘Hôtel du Pavot’
‘Alcove I’ (1946) by the soon to be completely rediscovered Ithell Coloquhoun was intriguing. Look out for the Tate show coming soon.
Then we went off to my favourite art fair: Paris International. There was much to see. Such as this intense Aaron Angell with Ilenia
House of Gaga was some intriguing works by Asma. I liked very much this piece entitled ‘Almento’
Also this other work ‘Invenatura Erguis’
At Sweetwater the work Kayode Ojo was interesting - he is examining the relationship of pop glamour objects
At MadeIn Gallery the work of Song Kun was piercing
Also we had the opportunity to drop by to some lovely collectors homes. I particularly loved this juxtaposition of Martino Gamper and Takashi Murakami
