Rotterdam to Israel
In Rotterdam I finally get to meet the wonderful Joep van Lieshout. There was so much to take in. He created a procession of very different figures. Very dark and very sad

Alongside the figures were ‘survival crates’, which contained everything a human being needed to survive and live

He had some very menacing sculptures dotted around amongst some more digestible work

Joep took us for a walk. He has an incredible social conscience and was giving back to the community with his art works on show. He felt that during Covid in particular this was important, as all the museums were closed, and this was one way people could see art

We came across one of his incredible monuments

Nathalie Kovac helped us along the way and showed us some of the local art

There were art shows everywhere, including Alexandra Phillips’ ‘Dogs can smell dogs’

Then into the Covid hospital brain of Joep

I finally made it to Israel where there was art all over the walls

Went to a wonderful home owned by an art collecting couple, full of incredible treasures. There were so many that the walls had run out of space and the ceilings had come in use!

The eclectic mixture of art styles was spectacular

I was so intrigued by this collector couple and their distinct style. There was no holding back, and a deep passion in their beliefs. I felt perhaps we could all learn from them and be a little bit more bold and less conservative. I wish I was able to interview them during Covid times, although I think it would have taken a few hours to go through piece by piece!

At the end of the trip Mr Penguin said in Hebrew, ‘Peace Friend’. Back to London now and then Paris
