September 2024 London to Berlin and back again
30 September 2024
First stop is the City and Guilds MA show where we proudly visit our brilliant friend Bev who is graduating this year. She has been able to express her feelings and thoughts through her work
We visit a few galleries at Edel Assanti, Jeremy Epstein introduced to artist Simon Lehner
We are loving the work of Lonnie Holley
‘Without Skin’ was a showstopper made with fire hoses chairs and nails in his brilliant Camden Arts Centre show
The work of Jacob Dahlgren at workplace definitely had us hooked :)
At Brooke Benington we dipped into artist Nona Inescu’s exhibition “Daisy World” where she is exploring the effects by radiation on nature
The beautiful glass Venus trap work was eye catching. As was the hand that is swallowed by a flower, becoming a hybrid
We have time to visit the Lewis Hammond show at the Perimeter which is presented in such a sensitive and engrossing way. The viewer is drawn in to the pain and humanity of the Lewis’ world
Next we head to Berlin and the Gropius Bau to see the work of Tiravanija. This installation and performance created by Rirkrit back in 1997 is activated by a sausage … and a potato?
Says it all
At Hamburger Bahnhof are many GREAT shows including October 13 2019 – July 5 2021 (2021), a pair of shoes fused with a working metronome
Then the highlight - Marianne Simnett and WINNER a wonderful new work and world commissioned by Hamburger Bahnhof
It was a pleasure to see our book on sale in the shop
I had a lovely introduction of Jeremy Shaw work. In this piece, “Phase Shifting Index” he creates films that explore the body as a vehicle for transformation
At Sprueth Magers is once again a mesmerizing Anne Imhof
It was lovely to see a work by Mira Lee. A preview of the work to come at the Turbine Hall perhaps?
At Julia Stoschek Collection it was great to see this work by Jesse Stecklow ‘room box’
At Max Hetzler Gallery it was wonderful to see the new Albert Oehlen sculptures, made whilst on a residency in Marfa, Texas
Then back to London and an encounter with the magical work of Libby Heaney at Gazelli Art House – the works are incredibly impressive
We bumped into these lovely young visitors … and their adults Julia Greenway and Rosie Gibbens
We all then headed up to Frieze Sculpture where there was a lot to see, including Libby’s Quantum sculpture, created with the help of the fantastic Paul Luckraft, now working with Mila and Gazelli Art House. I feel lucky to have been part of her exciting quantum journey. It’s the first art of its kind
Was nice to see a new work by Kirstine Roepstorff. Here is ‘Lighting Rod’ from ‘earth school’ her ongoing project the focusing on the nature of energy. We showed her work way back in 2008, great to see more by her
Grosse. As well as being a wonderful human being she was also a great patron of the arts and always had something inspiring and intelligent to say
