Venice Part 3
A big highlight was a visit to Bruno and Christiana Bischofberger’s amazing Finland glass show. It was totally awe inspiring. It was a chance to discover wonderful new pieces that had never been shown before.

We have been collecting Finnish glass for twenty years so it was a joy to see. Loved these 80’s works by Kaj Frank.

Nearby at Le Stanze del Vetro, Hiroshi Sugimoto’s glass house, ‘The Tea House Mondrian’ had a very beautiful tea ceremony taking place.

There were some other highlights for me in the Biennale but not the most obvious, I guess. I loved the work by Tsibi Geva in his show entitled, ‘Archaeology of the Present’.

In the Scottish Pavilion Tiffany Zab, Roy Zab, Maitreyi and Lizzie were mesmerised by Graham Fagen’s film where the poem ‘The Slave’s Lament’ by Robert Burns was being sung.

The ceramic works of Walead Beshty were monumental and very intricate.

Katharina Grosse had a big installation ‘Untitled Trumpet’ which looked quite dreamy and painterly.

My favourite work of all was Oscar Murillo’s ongoing project in which he had children from all around the world doodle and scribble on their desks which were covered with canvas then removed and displayed in the Biennale. It was amazing how children from around the world have such a different eye for things.

Another highlight for us was Christoph Büchel’s Mosque. It was an amazing project to pull off. Slap in the middle of Venice where there are no Mosques he inserted one in a church. The project had a similar feel to the community centre he built in Piccadilly, which you can find in one of my old diary posts in 2011.

As a fully functional mosque, every detail was attended to including a washing room where one can perform wu'du.

Tiffany posed a little for me as she took advantage of architect Rem Koolhaas’s OMA produced show at the Prada Foundation, and looked majestic within the beautiful surroundings.

The day ended with a selfie taken by Kevin McGarry with Solomon Chase from DIS for Insta as we celebrated Tiffany's pre pre birthday.
