About

Alex Morrison works with a variety of media including drawings, paintings, videos, sculptures and installation which underscore his interests in subcultures, activism and rebellion. His works explore the vernacular, and offer a wry sense of humour regarding the universalising tendencies of modernism. Conversely, Morrison is also inspired by William Morris who reinvigorated the handmade aesthetics of art and craft, rallying against the tide of industrialism in the 19th century. Such reference to a utopian language and design combine with youth culture and protest. 'Homewrecker' is a video of the artist skateboarding along the bench tops and windowsill in a home environment. Morrison enacts this performance as a metaphor and a rebellious confrontation with the architectural space.
