Hans Op de Beeck

Hans Op de Beeck is known for his large installations, sculptures and films of urban locations and moments, often creating introspective environments in a monochromatic grey.

The collection holds an early video projection by Op de Beeck, Border (2001) the work opens on a small group of figures surrounded by black. As the work unfolds, we realised they are hidden in the hold of a haulage lorry. A life size X-ray image of the lorry emerges as captured on a surveillance screen. Their hushed speech makes clear that these are refugees.
