About

Using painterly techniques O'Connell investigates how the brain, eye and intellect interact. His works often take diverse references - such as Las Vegas casino carpet patterns and pressure point massage techniques - to produce physical and poetic intersections between both the issues at large and the mediums he has selected to investigate the issues in. For his Invites exhibtion O'Connell has produced a series of new works in latex and steel which investigate the development of ambient devices, digital programmes which monitor abstract information and communicate it passively to their user. O'Connell completed his MFA from Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste, in Frankfurt, Germany in 2011. Previous solo exhibitions include shows at Landings, Oslo, 2012 and Six Play, Bischoff/Weiss, London 2010. Selected group exhibitions include Original/ Copy 2, Peles Empire, London, 2012, Los Pasos Perdidos, Andreas Huber, Vienna, 2012, Sticks and Stones, Peres Projects, Berlin Mitte, 2011 and 'The Long Day Wanes, The Malayan Trilogy', Zinger Presents, Amsterdam, 2011.
