Mark Titchner uses diverse medium such as digital print, drawing, film, sculpture and installation in his work. Born in Luton in 1973, he attended the Hertfordshire College of Art & Design from 1991-1992 before graduating from Central St. Martins College of Art & Design in 1995. He received a Turner Prize nomination for his 2006 show IT IS YOU at the Arnolfini, Bristol. Titchner's work incorporates multiple identities alongside past and present, secular and spiritual notions of faith. He often employs imagery and text taken from advertising, evangelical pamphlets, trade union banners, extreme music and political propaganda that give the viewer a call to respond. The common denominator among this material is a quest for idealism and enlightenment; a desire for some form of transcendence. Recent projects include the performance Rose with Grumbling Fur at the Roundhouse and solo exhibitions at Dilston Grove/CGP London, The Gallery at Foyles, London, Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto and The New Art Gallery, Walsall. Titchner currently lives and works in London.
