Laurel Nakadate's Strangers and Relations opens at Des Moines Art Center, Iowa
Laurel Nakadate, 365 Days: A Catalogue of Tears, 2011

A new instalment of Nakadate’s ongoing photographic series featuring portraits of strangers in isolated locations opens in Iowa this weekend. Laurel Nakadate’s Star Portraits were first produced as part of her Zabludowicz Collection Annual Commission exhibition in 2011 and involve the artist photographing people she has never met before in the dark, in remote locations. Evolving this process, Nakadate has sourced her recent subjects through networking with distant relatives on online ancestry and DNA analysis communities.
Strangers and Relations will be presented at Des Moines Art Center, Iowa, from 5 September 2015 to 24 January 2016. For more information please visit their website.
