Students Shine with Creativity in Design Project
Students from Åshöjden Elementary School, Finland

Zabludowicz Collection was delighted to invite Year 8 students from Åshöjden Elementary School, Finland to the Collection's Glass Design Gallery. The students delved into the world of Finnish glass design, and were inspired by the many works by artists including Alvar Aalto, Timo Sarpaneva, Oiva Toikka, Ruth Bryk, Nanny Still, and Tapio Wirkkala. The students enjoyed a guided tour by Residency and Projects Assistant (Finland), Imran Mahmood.

Back in the classroom, students were tasked with designing their own sculptures, first on paper and then by shaping clay. They used their sketches as guides and learned techniques for shaping, sculpting, and decorating, using their creativity to transform their ideas into reality.

Once the clay pieces were complete, they were glazed and fired in a kiln, and the final results were stunning!
The students also photographed their final pieces, creating images that beautifully highlighted the colours, textures, and forms of their glass designs.

Well done to all the students!
