Winner of East London Painting Prize Announced
Nathan Eastwood, Nico's Cafe, 2014

The inaugural East London Painting Prize has been awarded to Nathan Eastwood. This newly established award has been created by leading supporters of contemporary art The Legacy List, the Goldhill Family and Zabludowicz Collection to recognise and facilitate artistic talent emerging from East London. Nathan will receive £10,000 and a solo exhibition at Bow Arts' Nunnery Gallery in October 2014.

Nathan was selected from a shortlist of 43 artists by a panel of experts including Sarah Elson of the Contemporary Art Society, the artist Varda Caivano and Zabludowicz Collection's Acting Director, Maitreyi Maheshwari. The judges commended his painting's distinctive method and subtle subject matter. Nathan plans to use his cash prize to create new large scale work ahead of his Nunnery Gallery solo show.

Nathan Eastwood's winning artwork will feature in an exhibition of all 43 shortlised artists at Strand East, 1 Sugar House Lane, London until 1 June 2014. The show will be open to the public daily from 11am - 6pm.
