Wolfgang Tillmans
The 56 photographs that make up the Concorde Grid were taken in and around London as part of a commission for Tillmans’ exhibition at Chisenhale Gallery in 1997. They were shot from a wide range of places including private gardens, parks, railway tracks and the perimeter fence around Heathrow airport. Tillmans’ approach brings to mind the dedication of a birdwatcher tracking his subject across the land or the chance photography of an amateur. Tillmans is a master at creating images of everyday life. He comments: ‘in photography, I like to assume exactly the unprivileged position…that everyone can take.’
