New York in the Snow - Spring / Break Art Show 2018

We found ourselves, once again, back at the Spring / Break Art Show, this time I was thankfully not in a wheelchair
We glided our way into ‘2018 Stranger Comes to Town’, a wonderfully curated show bursting with energy
First stop was the wonderous Turkish mermaids curated by Baris Gokturk
We admired ‘The Tortured, Tragic, Reclusive, Reticent, Painfully Cryptic Greatest Living White Male Painter’ by Graham Wilson in ‘Quarantine’, a show curated by Anna Zorina Gallery
A special moment for me was discovering Brett Wallace’s ‘AMAZING INDUSTRIES’ in which he explores the archetype, strangeness and branding of a mega corporation using different technical mediums including Virtual Reality. Infiltrating the infrastructure of Mechanical Turk, Amazon’s online crowd sourcing marketplace, with workers sending back pictures of their home based work areas. ‘AMAZING INDUSTRIES’ investigates how the future of work can be both humane and equalitarian
We had some great fun in the 'Self On The Shelf' room by Laia Cabrera and Isabellle Duverger where if you pressed an object the walls changed around you.
Roxanne Jackson’s work in the ‘Psychic Dream Girls’ room, curated by Rachel Phillips, was one of my favourites. I loved her strangeness and the use of unusual objects to breathe life into her work and igniting it
Another great moment was dropping by the hotel room at “(HOTEL) XX”, a special Project Curated by Indira Cesarine / The Untitled Space which was an immersive installation presented as a retro hotel. The room engaged us in a visual narrative of fears, familiarity and nostalgic fantasies
In Macon Reed’s ‘A Pressing Conference,” curated by Helen Toomer, Tiffany Zab declared holidays for the art world!
Also when she chose from 3000 colours in Alexander Reben’s ‘strange/r/evolution’ presented by Amy Kisch + Charlie James. I was particularly intrigued by the idea that you could speak into a microphone and any colour would be created and appear around you
