About

Primarily known as a conceptual artist, Michael Landy's practice often involves finding new potential for objects with specific personal or cultural connotations. His work is often understood as politically charged, and intended to resonate with the viewers lived experience. From his early appropriation of market stall displays to the much discussed Breakdown performance of 2001, a thread of anticapitalistic dissent and yearning for a simpler life can often be identified in Landy's art. These sentiments find alternative expression in his delicate detailed paintings and drawings, which often feature plants and trees, or the artist's friends and family.
