About

For Sarvisalo, Falls has created a sensitive enhancement of an existing boat house. Taking the triangular shape of the roof’s gable he replaced the wooden façade with a patchwork of different coloured handmade stained glass. Each piece of glass has been selected by the artist to give a full range of colours and opacity. Before installing the glass in Finland, Falls made a photogram of each pane, laying each section directly onto light sensitive photographic paper and exposing them. The resulting image captures the light which is filtered by the glass, creating a negative
of the coloured glass – green becomes purple, red becomes blue etc. The photograms appear like abstract paintings; the shapes of the glass create a pattern which relates to the form of the gable encouraging the viewer to engage with the transformation of light into colour.
