About

Known for her diverse range of inspirations spanning psychological states, counter narratives, nature, sub-cultures, and art history, Anj Smith's work collapses traditional definitions of portraiture, landscape and still life. Her work exudes the evocative opera of inner worlds that eludes our sight but grips us at a level of deep feeling. In this talk, the British-born artist discusses her practice and approach.

Smith's work expands our understanding of contemporary reality by employing highly detailed minutia of dreamscapes and otherworldly creatures and objects. The artist's unique paintings depict the current state of environmental deterioration in the natural world whilst generating a curious dialogue of tradition and change.
