Sarvisalo, Finland

The Zabludowicz Collection has been working in Sarvisalo, an island one hour east of Helsinki, Finland, to establish an international art centre and residency programme, which launches in Summer 2012.

A number of site-specific art works have already been commissioned for Sarvisalo and works from the collection are being installed in barns, galleries, houses and within the island’s natural landscape. The first art barn was converted in 2010 to showcase works from China, Korea and Japan. In the same year, the collection initiated an artistic residency aimed at supporting artists at key moments in their careers, offering them the opportunity to stay on the island for periods ranging from one night to one month. This residency is by invitation only.

Artists involved in the inaugural presentation in Sarvisalo include Stella Hamberg, Jeppe Hein, James Ireland, Matthew Day Jackson, Franz West, Richard Woods and Toby Ziegler, all of whom have been invited to spend time on the island before realising their commissions.

We look forward to welcoming visitors in 2012 once we have officially launched.

Visits will be free of charge and arranged by appointment.
